Lagos supports the acquisition of aid and relief

A vessel for the Water Rescue Unit and an Urban Fire Fighting Vehicle will be acquired

The Lagos City Council decided to allocate a subsidy of 303 thousand euros to the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Lagos for the acquisition of a vessel for the Water Rescue Unit and an Urban Fire Fighting Vehicle.

In June 2021, the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Lagos announced the reactivation of the Water Rescue and Diving Unit equipped with divers, lifeguards and rescue boat drivers.

The mission of the Lagos Fire Brigade is to «provide assistance to shipwrecked people and participate in underwater searches, being, therefore, an active partner of the municipality at the Lagos Nautical Station», says the Municipality of Lagos in a statement.

The amount now allocated will allow, according to the municipality, to equip the Unit with the necessary equipment so that the existing human elements can have a prompt and qualified response.

Another of the critical areas of intervention in the protection of the safety of people and goods is the fight against urban fires – a job that will be made easier with the acquisition of a new vehicle with the valence of rescue in extrication.

This investment by the municipality is part of the Great Options of the Plan for 2022 and stems from the strategic objective “Reinforce Social Equality and Security”, which aims to “make Lagos an even more solidary, safe and healthy territory”.

The Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Lagos was founded on July 24, 1886, being an Institution of Public Utility at the Service of the Community.
