Researchers from the University of Algarve win the HPA Saúde Orthopedics award

Ana Marreiros and Ana Paula Fontes were distinguished by the HPA Saúde group

Ana Marreiros and Ana Paula Fontes, from the University of Algarve, were the winners of the Dr. Rui Antão, promoted by the HPA Saúde group, an award that «aims to stimulate the development of promoting and relevant actions that allow the progress and dynamization of the specialty».

Ana Marreiros, professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (FMCB) and researcher at the Algarve Biomedical Center (ABC), was distinguished «for her differentiating work in the research carried out in the area of ​​knee and hip arthroplasties», according to UAlg .

Ana Paula Fontes, professor at the Escola Superior de Saúde (ESS), was awarded «for her work in the production of the scientific activity of the Orthopedics Group over the last 9 years, with relevance to the publication of scientific articles and communications in national and international”.

According to UAlg, Ana Marreiros «has been working with cutting-edge technology, together with orthopedists and physiotherapists, promoting, over the years, a fruitful dialogue between research and clinic, which has allowed this area of ​​research and intervention to be leveraged in the Algarve».

«Still in this context, a number of important scientific articles have been published, in impact publications, which contribute to a better understanding of the associated problem», he adds.

Ana Paula Fontes, in addition to being the director of the newly created degree course in Physiotherapy, is a consultant at the HPA Saúde Group Training Center, where she is responsible for the multidisciplinary and research training process.

«He has been teaching in higher education since 2005 and has been developing research in the area of ​​functionality of the elderly and specifically also functionality after total knee and hip prosthesis. She is also a collaborating researcher at CISC Nova – Interdisciplinary Center for Social Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, since 2012”, concludes the Algarve university.
