Employees of the Algarve Biomedical Center (ABC) signed a manifesto of support for Nuno Marques, president of the institution, in the wake of what consider the «persecutory attitude that the administration of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA)» has had towards the head of this academic centre.
In the document, which was made public this Tuesday, the signatory officials say they feel "the moral and civic duty" to make public their position in relation to the alleged "persecutory attitude" of the CHUA towards Nuno Marques.
“We do it because we believe it is our duty to demonstrate that we do not condone or resent attitudes of persecution towards the institution, nor towards any of its collaborators”, they add.
In the public position, it is pointed out that, even “after a negative opinion by the Public Prosecutor’s Office on a case brought to Dr. Nuno Marques for the administration of CHUA», the administrators of hospitals in the Algarve returned «to file a new lawsuit against our president on the same facts. Such an attitude demonstrates that, despite being an integral part of the ABC, the CHUA administration is willing to do anything to denigrate the name of our institution».
«The ABC, over the years, has been guided by total transparency and the extraordinary work carried out in numerous projects, with the main driver having been Dr. Nuno Marques, in the constant search for greater investment, better care and services for the community and recognition for the Algarve region. In this sense, this type of behavior is regrettable, which, in our view, only harms the institution, the ongoing projects and the trust and respect for someone who has done so much for the region and the country», reads the manifesto.
«At a time when the country is recovering, after difficult years of fighting the pandemic, and when health in the Algarve is going through a difficult period, which will be exacerbated with the arrival of the summer months, it would be expected that the conditions would be created necessary to foster new opportunities and growth in the region. On the contrary, the CHUA administration opts for a path that generates uncertainties and fears for those who work here”, conclude the ABC employees.
