CCDR launches the Action Plan for Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity in the Algarve

An 'effective participation process of all stakeholders' is envisaged.

The Action Plan for Green Infrastructures and Biodiversity in the Algarve has already begun to be prepared by the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), to «promote the Algarve’s differentiation also for the richness of its landscape and biodiversity». The first extended meeting took place this Tuesday, June 21st, at the CCDR Algarve Auditorium, in Faro.

The final objective is «the elaboration of an Action Plan that identifies and densifies the typologies of action, allowing to guide regionally the intervention priorities in the areas of nature conservation, biodiversity, natural heritage and green infrastructures, framing the investments to be carried out in the next programming period, as well as the sources of funding, in both national and community programs, such as the Regional Operational Program of the Algarve, Operational Program for Cross-border Cooperation Spain Portugal (POCTEP) and others».

The plan should also help to define "the contents and boundaries to be established in the notices of the Regional OP and POCTEP when justified, ensuring the articulation of execution priorities and compliance with the principles of economic rationality, coherence of interventions, programmatic flexibility and 97/2020 of 13 November, which establishes the guiding principles and operational structure of the European Cohesion Fund programming period for 2021-2027”.

The works were opened by José Pacheco, vice president of CCDR-Algarve, who framed the Action Plan. Next, the detailed presentation of the methodology was carried out, which «provides for a process of effective participation of all interested parties», and the phasing and timing of the preparation of the Action Plan was also presented.

The meeting had more than thirty participants representing the Municipalities and the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL), the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF), the Hydrographic Administration of the Algarve of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA/ARH), Portugal and the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve (DRAP), University of the Algarve (UAlg), AGIF – Agency for the Integrated Management of Rural Fires, Algarve Business Association (NERA), Associação of Forest Producers of Serra do Caldeirão (APFSC), Vicentina – Association for the Development of the Southwest, Odiana – Association for the Development of Baixo Guadiana, and associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the area of ​​the Environment that will continue as partners in this process.
