Alcoutim shows “The Last Drop”

The exhibition can be visited from the 24th of June to the 22nd of July, from 9:00 am to 15:30 pm

The opening of the exhibition #AÚltimaGota_Algarve will take place on June 24, at 16 pm, at Escola Integrada, in Alcoutim.

The exhibition will be attended by Paulo Paulino, vice-president of the City Council, and Luís Palma, chairman of the board of the Association for the Defense of Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the Algarve (Almargem).

«The event will provide visitors with a unique, immersive, interactive experience, with information on water consumption in the world, in Portugal and in the Algarve», says Almargem.

«#AÚltimaGota_Algarve” is the last material produced regarding the application, it is supported by the Environmental Fund and is included in the program “ENEA 2020 – Sustainable production and consumption”», he adds.

The inauguration is part of the commemorations, in Portugal, of the Week of Desertification and Drought (organized by ICNF - Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests), which began on 17 June - "World Day to Combat Drought and Desertification". ”.

Focused on the urgency of adopting policies and measures at the local, regional and global scale, the motto “Overcoming Drought Together” was the theme chosen and announced by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

The Municipality, in the presidency of CCDesert (Center for Competence in the Fight Against Desertification), welcomes the start of this exhibition, whose visit is recommended to the entire population of the region and the country.

In this exhibition, the visitor will have the opportunity to learn more about the use of water in areas as different as the domestic sector, agriculture, golf courses and tourism.

“#AÚltimaGota_Algarve” was designed to be an exhibition that does not leave any visitor indifferent, but above all that makes them reflect and lead to changes in attitudes, and contribute to an informed and active civil society.

According to Patrícia Fernandes, technician at Associação Almargem and responsible for monitoring the entire execution of the exhibition, «It was quite challenging to conceive an exhibition in which the visitor could be surprised, presenting useful and important information, but in a light way».

The visitor will visit a reduced space with a different concept, using materials with the least possible water footprint.

«The aim was to design an exhibition that would mark whoever visited it and that would lead visitors to recommend it to other people. But above all, it contributes to informing and sensitizing the population and leading to real changes in behavior», adds the association's technician.

Almargem invites the entire population to visit this exhibition, with free admission, from June 24 to July 22, 2022, from Monday to Friday, from 2:6 am to 09:00 pm.

The Association was founded in 1988, it is a Non-Governmental Environmental Organization (NGO), of regional scope, based in Loulé, in which it develops actions in various areas, especially in the field of conservation of natural and cultural heritage, education for the sustainable development and community intervention and education.
