Handball Club Olhão promotes Veterans Tournament Hélder Lemos

ACO already has about 60 athletes of various ages registered

The 16rd Hélder Lemos Handball Veterans Tournament, which will take place at the Municipal Pavilion of Olhão, on June 13, will present fans with four games of veteran teams and four more games of presentation of the youth groups of Handebol Clube Olhão , mixed bambis, mixed minis, under-16 female and under-XNUMX male.

«The event honors the courage, strength and determination committed by Hélder Lemos to rebuild handball in Olhão, which inspired the creation of Handball Clube Olhão (ACO)», explains the sports association.

The senior handball team of Sporting Clube Olhanense (SCO), of which Hélder Lemos was an athlete, makes a point of being present at the event, with a moment of skills demonstration. Hélder Lemos' participation in this team «was marked by his selflessness, friendship with others and entrepreneurship».

The team was at its best during the 1990s, representing the city of Olhão with all dignity, and in 1992 they managed to ascend to the 2nd national division, now marking the 30th anniversary of this feat.

«It couldn't be a better time for a well-deserved tribute to our partner and friend Hélder Lemos, who recently died unexpectedly, leaving the local handball community greatly missed», explains the ACO.

ACO was founded on February 20, 2019, with the aim of continuing the history that the sport has in the City of Olhão. His first sporting season began in September of that year, but there was quickly a forced stop, due to the covid-19 pandemic. Despite this constraint, today the ACO has manitas, bambis, minis, a sub-13 women's team and sub-14 and sub-16 men's teams, in a total of
about 60 registered athletes.

In addition to the training levels, the Masters Handball Algarve, a men's team of veterans, have represented Olhão in the National Veterans Championship - PO40, occupying the 3rd position in the Final Phase of Group 2.

This team won the II Hélder Lemos Veterans Tournament and will, together with the ACO, organize and compete in the III Hélder Lemos Veterans Tournament, which will take place on Olhão Day.
