PSD against support of 200 thousand euros from Portimão Chamber to futsal tournament

PSD councilors in the Portimão Chamber voted against a proposal by the PS municipal executive to award financial support of 200 thousand euros for the holding of a futsal tournament, as they considered that "more important and fair" would be that this sum was allocated to the Portimonense's futsal club, which currently receives "one fifth of that amount" from the municipality.

At stake is a proposal by the executive to grant support and sign a contract with a company for the organization of a futsal tournament to take place on the 27th and 28th of August, which was eventually approved by the PS.

For opposition councilors Rui André and Ana Fazenda, this money "would be better spent when it was allocated to Portimonense Sporting Clube to face the countless difficulties and expenses it goes through, for example in the rental of buses for the trips of their teams, in the modalities, since the Municipality does not always guarantee this logistical support to which it has committed».

The reinforcement of support to the Portimonense futsal team would also be «a way of promoting the county for the visibility that this team has been gaining in the country and in the Portimonense community.

Rui André defends, on the other hand, that the attribution of this support is «a real affront to Portimão families who struggle daily to be able to meet their financial commitments and payment, among others, of the high fees charged by the Municipality of Portimão».

The social democrats recalled that Portimão "has a financial assistance program (FAM) in progress, and for that reason is also obliged to manage its resources more rigorously."

To these «local socio-economic considerations», says the Portimão PSD, «adds to the fact that the Portimonense Sporting Clube Futsal team, which with great merit is part of the first Portuguese league of this modality, receives annual support from the Municipality in the order of 40.000,00, 1 euros, curiously 5/XNUMX of the value attributed to this company to organize this two-day event in August».
