Portimão Arena is the stage for the first parade of the Popular Marches

With free admission, tickets must be collected in advance at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão, Museu de Portimão or at the venue itself.

The first of the five parades from Portimão of the 21st edition of the Marchas Populares is scheduled for the Portimão Arena, on the night of Friday, June 3rd.

After its debut in 2019, it will be the second time that the marches will parade in the Portimão Arena, located in the Parque de Feiras e Exposições de Portimão, a stone's throw from the city centre, for a procession full of colour, animation, music and harmonious choreographies, that will surely attract hundreds of people, including residents and visitors.

Furthermore, the parade has free admission, and the public simply needs to pick up a ticket in advance at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão, at the Portimão Museum or at the event venue itself.

After the parade at Portimão Arena, the program will continue in the following order: June 10, at 22:00 pm, at the Mexilhoeira Grande soccer field; June 18, at 22 pm, at the old auction house in Portimão; 00th of June, at 24:22, in the riverside area of ​​Alvor; June 00th, also at 25:22, in Praia da Rocha, from the Miradouro to Fortaleza Santa Catarina, always along Avenida Tomás Cabreira.

A few hundred marchers will participate in this party, representing the Portimonense Philharmonic Society, Sporting Glória ou Morte Portimonense, Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense and CIRM – Clube de Instrução e Recreio Mexilhoeirense, which will be joined by the Marcha da Vila de Alvor, organized by Parish Council itself using the voluntary work of the population.

Also associated with the party are three guest marches from neighboring counties, representing the Associação Grupo de Amigos da Pedreira (Silves), which will perform on June 10th, the Clube Desportivo de Odiáxere (Lagos), on the 18th of June and the Clube Desportivo de Odiáxere (Lagos) of Football “Os Estombarenses” (Lagoa), on June 24th.

In total, about a thousand people will be involved, including marchers, choreographers and costume designers, who, once again, «wear the spirit of association and give free rein to imagination and genuine popular sense, evoking various themes related to sociocultural heritage and customs and regional traditions», highlights the Portimão Chamber.

The fairs are also resumed and take place in the heart of the city, taking place in Praça da República, always from 20 pm, with the following programme: 00th – Folklore and “Tuna Não Touch Nada” Group of the Instituto de Culture of Portimão and “Os Amigos da Figueira” Singing Group (11:20 pm), in addition to Pedro Silva (30:22 pm); 00th – Traditional Portuguese Music Singing Group “Estrelas do Barlavento” (18:20) and Marcelo Rio (30:22); 00th – Marco António (25:20) and Sónia Costa (30:22).

In addition to the musical entertainment, there will also be five food and drink stalls on site, run by Sociedade Vencedora Portimonense, Clube União Portimonense, Boa Esperança Atlético Clube Portimonense, Clube Desportivo e Recreativo da Pedra Mourinha and Sporting Glória ou Morte Portimonense.

After two years of interruption due to Covid-19, the Popular Marches are back in the municipality of Portimão, which constitute an “unavoidable poster in the cultural animation program, as a corollary of the dynamics of the associative movement, cherished and supported by the municipality whenever possible. place".

The festivities, which provide many nights of fun, mixed with the aromas of roasted sardines and basil, are organized by the Municipality of Portimão, together with the Parish Councils of Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande, with the «enthusiastic commitment » of the communities involved, which mobilize large hundreds of people of all age groups and sectors of society, to which a few thousand spectators, including residents and visitors, join.
