The Chamber of Faro «deeply regrets» the death of João José Gago Horta, businessman and former PSD deputy to the Assembly of the Republic, which took place this weekend.

João Gago Horta was born in Faro on November 11, 1943 and studied at the Lyceum of this city. He later graduated in Mechanical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico.

He returned to the region to take over the direction of Farauto (a company created by his father, José Mateus Horta and distinguished, in 1997, with the merit medal - Gold Degree by the Municipality of Faro).

«As a businessman and owner of this company, he significantly boosted the car trade sector, having, in addition, been responsible for this company becoming one of the ones that most supported athletics and motor sports in the Algarve region», according to the Chamber of Deputies. Faro.

«In fact, he even created an athletics team, in which his brother Luís Horta distinguished himself as an athlete and who brought great dynamism to this sport in the 80s and 90s of the century. XX. As far as rallying is concerned, he created the “Farauto Rallye Team”, a team that was a regular presence in several national championships, having become known for the debut of the Opel Corsa in sports competitions”, added the municipality.

He was also a PSD deputy, elected by the Faro, in the IX Legislature, between 2002 and 2005.
