Navy rescues 80-year-old German with heart failure from ship offshore Faro

A passenger on a ship sailing off the coast of Faro was rescued by the Navy this morning, May 14th, due to heart problems, and taken to the hospital.

At around 3:10 am today, the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Lisbon received an alert for a medical occurrence aboard the ship Aidastell, sailing 40 miles (about 74 kilometers) south of Faro.

In question was a man of German nationality, aged 80, who was suffering from heart failure.

«The ship approached the port of Olhão and the MRCC Lisboa coordinated the removal of the passenger in collaboration with the local Port Captain, who pledged a vessel from the Olhão Lifeguard Station. A medical team from INEM was also on board”, described the Navy.

The lifeguard station vessel arrived at the scene at 5:30 am, having completed the medical rescue at 6:35 am. In the port of Olhão, an ambulance from INEM was waiting to assist the patient and transport him to a hospital.
