MAR Shopping Algarve is promoting the third edition of Beach Cleaning, which this year takes place at Praia dos Salgados, this Saturday, May 14, between 9:30 am and 11:00 am.
The action has several partner entities such as IKEA, Designer Outlet Algarve, Portuguese Environment Agency, National Institute for Nature and Forest Conservation, SPEA – Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds, ERP Portugal / European Recycling Platform – Waste Management Entity, CCMAR – Centro de Ciência e do Mar / UALG, Zoomarine ARA – Animal Rescue Algarve and Concessionaire of the Bathing Unit called Praia dos Salgados – UB1, and will culminate in a free workshop, at 11:30 am, which addresses the correct way to dispose of batteries and their consequences on oceans.
In the first edition, held last May, in Ria Formosa, according to MAR Shopping Algarve, 53 garbage bags with a capacity of 120 liters each were collected, with the participation of 120 volunteers. In the second edition, held in October 2021, 67 volunteers collected 2600 liters of waste.
“Our responsibility as members of this community is to be involved in the common welfare and the preservation of resources. More than a simple cleaning action, we will use our space and platforms to continue to raise awareness of the impact of human behavior during the bathing season on the ecosystem, namely with regard to the amount of garbage produced and abandoned in the dunes and at sea», stresses Ana Antunes, general director of MAR Shopping Algarve.
In this edition of Beach Cleaning, all participants will have access to a Kit of participation consisting of specific bags for the different waste, gloves, certified masks and a t-shirt.
Participation is free and does not require prior registration.
