Luís Costa finished in 5th long distance event at the European Paracycling Championships

Class H5 riders completed ten laps of the circuit designed in Peuerbach and Steegen

Luís Costa, from Alentejo, who lives in Portimão, took 5th place in the H5 class long-distance race that closed, this Sunday, May 29, the European Paracycling Championship, in Steegen (Austria).

Class H5 riders completed ten laps of the circuit designed in Peuerbach and Steegen. Luís Costa kept a steady pace, putting himself, for most of the race, in the position in which he would finish.

The national representative spent fifth, 4m23s from the winner, Dutchman Mitch Valize, who sprinted to Frenchman Loic Vergnaud. The Polish Krzysztof Plewa, who rode most of the race together with the first two, gave in in the final part and would finish in third position, 25 seconds away.

Flávio Pacheco defended the national colors in the H4 class long-distance race. The Alentejo was ranked ninth, one lap away from the first four, the only ones who completed the ten-lap course. The fastest was Frenchman Joseph Fritsch, followed by Austrian Thomas Frühwirth, at 6 seconds, and another Frenchman, Mathieu Bosredon, at 13 seconds.

“The level was very high in this European Championship. From our participation, I highlight the commitment of everyone and the very positive results, with two places close to the podium in four days of competition. On the last day, Luís Costa was at his usual level, while Flávio Pacheco was physically weakened, since yesterday he doesn't feel very well", said national paracycling coach José Marques.
