Luís Costa wins 5th place in the long-distance race of the Paracycling World Cup

Algarve was 2m19s behind the winner

Luís Costa, from the Algarve, in the H5 class, and Flávio Pacheco, in the H4, concluded this Saturday afternoon their personal participation in the Elzach, Germany stage of the Paracycling World Cup, with two performances within the top 10.

After podium achieved in the time trial, Luís Costa was once again with the best in yesterday's long-distance race, heading the second group of runners, who chased the quartet that managed to leave the others behind over the 51,8 kilometers of competition.

The Algarve Paralympic crossed the finish line in fifth place, 2m19s from the winner, Dutchman Mitch Valize, who doubled after winning the time trial. Two seconds later, Frenchman Loic Vergnaud and Dutchman Tim de Vries arrived, in that order.

Flávio Pacheco, born in Santiago do Cacém, also managed to score points for the international ranking, thanks to his eighth place in the 51,8 kilometer race. He spent 9m26s longer than the winner, the Dutchman Jetze Plat, who sprinted the Frenchman Mathieu Bosredon. Third, at 2m52s, was Swiss Fabian Recher. Running as an individual and not for the national team, Carlos Neves was in 17th place, one lap behind the winner.

“It was a good performance by the athletes of the National Team. They both managed to score points for the ranking, which is excellent. Luís Costa is to be congratulated for having achieved a place within what was expected. Flávio too, because he believed in himself and surpassed himself”, analyzes the national paracycling coach, José Marques.
