Loulé will teach children to ride a bike

Actions in schools in the county will start in September, at the start of the 2022-23 school year

The Câmara de Loulé will teach children to ride a bicycle, after receiving European funding under the “Healthy Cities” project.

This project is aimed at children who attend pre-school and 1st cycle in schools in the municipality.

«Despite the commitment that the Municipality of Loulé has made to the use of bicycles as a means of transport combined with sports, the truth is that the percentage of the population, particularly children and young people, who do not know how to ride a bicycle is quite high ( some studies indicate that this number is around 70%), either because of the parents' lack of time to teach their children, lack of spaces to practice or even for road safety reasons», says the Loulé Chamber.

Thus, the objective is to provide children between the ages of 3 and 10 with the knowledge and skills that allow them to use the bicycle regularly, in an autonomous and safe way, not only in technical terms, but also in terms of signs and rules. of traffic.

At the end of the teaching cycle – 4th year of schooling – each student will receive a “Driver's License” that will prove the skills of these cyclists.

Actions in schools in the county will begin in September, at the start of the 2022-23 school year.
