Loulé marks Climate Week with various activities

Between May 14th and 20th

The Municipality of Loulé will mark Climate Day, which is celebrated on the 14th of May, with several initiatives until the 20th, which aim to «mobilize the community for climate action». 

The initiatives begin on Saturday, May 14th, with two recreational activities aimed at children, young people and family members.

At 10:30 am, at the Pole of the Municipal Library of Quarteira, the “Bora lá à Biblioteca | CLIMAAT100”, where the youngest can hear a story about climate change in Loulé. In this initiative, «the boy Diogo and his restless cat Carapau take them on a journey through time and teach them, in a comical and light way, how to fight climate change in their county», says the Municipality of Loulé.

At the same time, in Foz do Almargem and Trafal, in Quarteira, families are challenged to participate in “Bioblitz and Climate Change”, a citizen-science activity, in which the participants, through the use of mobile applications (Biodiversity4all and iNaturalis), collaborate in the identification and recording of observations of species in this (future) Local Natural Reserve.

On Monday, the 16th, the 7th Meeting of the Local Council for Monitoring Climate Action in Loulé takes place, a body made up of more than 70 entities, «whose mission is to contribute to the promotion, monitoring and monitoring of local climate action policy, towards more efficient, participatory and lasting governance».

On the 17th, International Recycling Day, the program starts with an awareness-raising action on water efficiency at Escola Prof. Sebastião Teixeira, in Salir. This action is part of the School Energy Community project – and it will install flow reduction devices in the school's faucets and showers, equipment that will allow a reduction of more than 50% in water consumption in these places.

That morning, at 11:00 am, at the Loulé Municipal Library, there will also be an awareness-raising action on waste management aimed at technicians from the Loulé City Council.

To end the day dedicated to recycling, at 21 pm, at Casa do Meio Dia, in Loulé, there will be a Lecture “ReciclArte”. The lecture will be addressed to the general public, having as speakers Inês Reis, from Inframoura, Joana Dias, from Loulé Design Lab, and the creatives from Loulé Design Lab.

«The main motto of this lecture is to make known the INFINITY project, which associated recycling, transformation, environment and solidarity, through joint reflection on the work carried out», says the Municipality.

The 19th is dedicated to young people, with an action scheduled for 11:45 am “Desafio Alfarroba”, a project that involves Escola EB 2,3 Dr. António de Sousa Agostinho, in Almancil, and at 14:30 pm, the Lecture “Climate Action in the Municipality of Loulé”, held at the Loulé Secondary School.

To close the celebrations, on the 20th of May, in the morning, the act of signing the public deed of the constitution of the Adapt.local Association – Network of Municipalities for Local Adaptation to Climate Change takes place.

The Coordinating Council is chaired by the Municipality of Loulé and the action involves around 30 municipalities nationwide, as well as higher education institutions, research centres, non-governmental organizations and companies.
