José Milhazes goes to Albufeira to talk about Russia and the war in Ukraine

Admission is free, but subject to room capacity.

Journalist José Milhazes will present his book “The Brief History of Russia: from Slavs to Putin”, at the Main Hall of Albufeira, next Friday, May 13, at 18:00 pm.

In this initiative, José Milhares will explain the reasons behind this war in Ukraine and the implications for the tourism sector across Europe, particularly in the Algarve and Albufeira.

The mayor José Carlos Rolo will moderate.

José Milhazes was born and raised in Póvoa de Varzim. In 1977, he went to study in the Soviet Union, where he graduated in Russian History and established himself as a translator of literary and political works. He worked as a correspondent in Russia for Portuguese media, having returned to his home country in 2015.

He is the author of a vast published work, among which “As Minhas Aventuras no País dos Soviets” (2017) and “Os Blumthal” (2019) stand out.

In 2013 he was distinguished with the Order of Merit of the Portuguese Republic. About this recent book, Milhazes says that he tried to “write it in the easiest language possible, but without losing the scientific perspective and the discussions that take place among Russian historians about important themes in the history of this great country”.

Admission is free, but subject to room capacity.
