Austrian dies on Bordeira beach, there is another missing

Despite «several attempts at resuscitation», the death was eventually declared on the beach.

An Austrian man died on the afternoon of Thursday, May 19, on Bordeira beach, in Aljezur, after having difficulties in the water and going into cardiac arrest. There is another man, equally Austrian, missing.

The alert was given at 19:25 pm yesterday, realizing that two people were "at risk of drowning", says the National Maritime Authority.

Upon arrival at the scene, elements of the Maritime Police, the Aljezur Fire Department and INEM found that one of the victims “had been rescued ashore by surfers who were nearby, and was in cardiac arrest”.

Despite "several attempts at resuscitation", the death was eventually declared on the spot.

The Public Prosecutor's Office was contacted, and the victim's body was later transported by the Volunteer Firefighters of Aljezur to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Portimão, accompanied by a vehicle from the local Maritime Police Command.

Then, a search began for the second victim, a man of Austrian nationality, who was missing in the water, in which elements of the local Command of the Maritime Police of Lagos, the “SeaWatch” Project in Lagos and Portimão and the Aljezur Volunteer Firefighters.

The searches, coordinated by the Captain of the Port and Local Commander of the Maritime Police of Lagos, were interrupted at the end of the afternoon, without the victim having been found, and have already been resumed.
