Applications for the Cultural Action Support Program are now open

Applications run until June 20

Applications for the Cultural Action Support Program (PAACA 2022) opened this Friday, May 13, and can be made until June 20.

Applications take place within the scope of the attributions of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve (DRCAlg), which aims to support local or regional cultural initiatives, of a non-professional nature. 

This year, the support program has as novelty the inclusion of DiVaM (Dissemination and Promotion of Monuments), new rules, and the «objective of contributing to the increasing correction of asymmetries in the access to cultural enjoyment of the populations of the Algarve, at the same time that promotes the growing qualification and training of cultural agents in the territory», emphasizes the DRCAlg in a statement. 

All cultural agents based in the Algarve, non-profit collective entities, of a non-professional nature and that, in 2022, do not benefit from sustained support from the tutelage of Culture, can thus apply to PAACA.

This year, three areas are covered, regardless of the domain or cultural and/or artistic expression, namely: Creation/Production, Programming/Diffusion, and DIVAM – Promotion and Enhancement of Monuments.

Each cultural agent can apply for three projects, one for each area of ​​activity, and the projects and initiatives must, according to the DRCAlg, «express, preferably, a direct or indirect relationship with the contributions of culture to the “Sustainable Development Goals set out in the 2030 Agenda” and/or with at least one of the ephemeris” listed by the entity.

In applications, cultural agents must take into account other priority criteria, such as: combating social exclusion and the desertification of the interior of the Algarve; strengthening the role of arts and culture in raising awareness of issues such as respect for human rights, equality and non-discrimination, the integration of Roma communities and other minorities; the promotion of youth participation, the challenges posed by migration and socio-territorial integration; education for culture and the arts and promotion of cultural habits among young people; the enhancement of the material and immaterial heritage of the Algarve and the preservation of traditions, memories and identity, including the revitalization of historic centers and centers, or depopulated spaces in the interior of the region. Preferential criteria are also the creation of partnerships and collaboration networks, in a logic of artistic and cultural production in a network, with different actors and bodies, such as municipalities, schools, foundations and other associative and/or private sector agents, which may or may not be from the cultural sector.

The Regional Directorate of Culture also explains that in the area of ​​Creation/Production, shows, artistic residency projects, or periods of creation, within the scope of performing arts, visual/plastic/digital arts, cinema, multimedia and digital media, and which may or may not include public presentation. «Artistic residencies, or periods of creation, must include artists from the Algarve or residents of the Algarve», he emphasizes.

The Programming/Broadcast includes festivals, cycles, tours and/or competitions in the various fields of performing arts (dance, music, theatre, contemporary circus and disciplinary intersections), film, multimedia or digital art shows and itinerancies and art exhibitions. plastic and/or visual.
