Two fishermen were saved after shipwreck at Praia do Tonel in Sagres

This morning

Two fishermen were rescued after their vessel sank off Tonel beach, in Sagres, today, the 20th, in the early morning.

The alert was given by one of the fishermen at 6:45 am and elements of the Sagres Lifeguard Station and a Portuguese Air Force aircraft were sent to the site.

«One of the fishermen was rescued by a fishing vessel that was nearby, and the elements of the Lifeguard Station proceeded to rescue the second fisherman», revealed the National Maritime Authority.

The victims were then transported to the port of Baleeira, “where INEM elements were waiting to assist them. Because they were physically well, the victims left the scene by their own means”.

The vessel was later towed by the elements of the Lifeguard Station, as it constitutes a danger for navigation, to the port of Baleeira, where it will be subject to an inspection to determine the causes of the accident and the navigability conditions.
