Café Memória Portimão will be a privileged meeting point for people with dementia and their families as of September.
The project is the result of a collaboration protocol on the Café Memória Project – signed this Monday, May 9, by the Municipality of Portimão, Alzheimer Portugal and Sonae Sierra – which aims to set up a meeting place in the city for to people with memory problems or dementia, as well as to their family members and caregivers.
The project will start in September, in what is the “Month of the Person with Dementia”.
«Café Memória’s mission is to reduce the social isolation in which many people with dementia and their families and caregivers find themselves, contributing to the improvement of their quality of life», emphasizes the Municipality of Portimão, adding that it intends to «raise awareness the community to the problem of dementia and
involve it in the pursuit of its objectives, namely through the practice of volunteering, thus reducing the stigma associated with it».
To put the project into practice, the municipality will support Alzheimer Portugal with an annual amount of 3500 euros, corresponding to the creation in the city of Café Memória, which will operate from September, once a month, in a room at the Portimão Museum.
