Algarvio Luís Costa in 8th in the Paracycling World Cup long-distance race

Competitive journey hardened by the wind

Luís Costa was today ranked eighth in the H5 class long-distance race in the scoring race for the Paracycling World Cup, in Ostende, Belgium.

In a competitive journey strongly hardened by the wind, Luís Costa was one of the 18 runners who competed over 81,6 kilometers in the H5 class long-distance race.

The Dutch dominated the race, with two representatives from the Netherlands standing out from the competition and reaching the finish together, after having completed 2h12m11s. Tim de Vries was first and Mitch Valize was second.

In third place, at 7m30s, Loic Vergnaud arrived. Luís Costa would be ranked eighth, 9m34s from the winner.

Class H4 riders also completed 81,6 kilometers. In the peloton of 26 elements, were the Portuguese Flávio Pacheco, for the National Team, and Carlos Neves, racing as an individual.

Flávio Pacheco was the best of both, finishing in 15th position, 15m15s from the Belgian Jonas van de Steene, who won alone, with 23 seconds less than the Frenchman Joseph Fritsch and the Swiss Fabian Recher, second and third, respectively. Carlos Neves was 19th, at 17m01s.

The Belgian Paracycling World Cup round ends this Sunday.

The National Team will be represented by Bernardo Vieira, in class C1, and by Telmo Pinão, in C2. The two paracyclists will face the 81,6 kilometers of their respective long distance events, scheduled for 15:45.
