Half a thousand athletes from all over the country participated this Sunday, May 8, in the third edition of the Trail Serra de Monchique/HPA Saúde, a race considered by the participants as «one of the best in the country».
It was a hard test, on a very hot day, with the first group leaving at 8:00 am to walk the trails between the villages of Monchique, Picota, Caldas de Monchique, Fóia and Barranco dos Pisões, spread over the three distances.
First, 50 athletes left for the Ultra-Veredas de Monchique, with 45 kilometers and 2500 of accumulated difference in level, followed by the Trail dos Dois Cumes, with 26 kilometers (1500m D+), then the Caldas-Picota Trail, with 17 kilometers ( 1000m D+) and, finally, the 8 kilometer solidarity walk.
