Boat hauling tractors will have a new “home” in Armação de Pêra

The shelter will be built with recycled plastic.

The tractors to haul the boats, which pull the vessels from the sea, will be more protected with a shelter that has already started to be built on the beach of Armação de Pêra. The works should finish at the end of May.

The work, whose contract was signed on the 8th of February, has aroused curiosity in the town.

The request for the construction of this shelter followed the purchase of a new tractor, last year, by the Municipality of Silves, which is added to other identical equipment that is already owned by the Fishermen's Association.

This entity understood that there was a lack of shelter so that the new tractor, more modern and with a lot of electronics, would not have the same end that many already had: the breakdown.

Once the company had been chosen, the measurements had been taken and the construction program had been completed, the works began, which had long been awaited by the Armacenense community.

While the work is underway, the new tractor, which was bought with the help of European funds, is parked in Silves, in the parking lot outside the premises of the former Lidl.

The completion of the works was scheduled for the end of April, but there was a setback.

“The work was supposed to be completed this month. It is not finished, because there was a problem at the factory with the cutting machine, to cut the material that will cover the structure. After finishing the shelter, the tractor, which has already been given to the Fishermen's Association, returns to Armação de Pêra», he explains to the Sul Informação Manuel João, chairman of the board of the Fishermen's Association.

The shelter, which costs around 20 euros, is being built with recycled plastic that resembles wood.

«We are satisfied with the work, because we asked for and will receive expensive equipment that must be treated and taken care of», adds Manuel João.

For Ricardo Pinto, president of the Junta de Freguesia de Armação de Pêra, this is also an important undertaking, although some people from Armação do not agree with the location.

«Some people think it shouldn't be there, but the important thing is that the shelter is there and that the tractor is at the service of the community», he concluded, to our newspaper.
