Vila do Bispo sappers are clearing land to prevent fires

Work has already begun, but will continue

The team of Sapadores Florestais de Vila do Bispo has already cleared more than 32 hectares of rural and forest land, in preventive forestry actions that are being carried out in the municipality to prevent the risks associated with fires.

The works, which were recently visited by Rute Silva, mayor of Vila do Bispo, covered «the entire area surrounding Aldeia da Pedralva up to the EN268 and the Vila do Bispo Forest Perimeter (Torre De Aspa; Casa do Guarda Florestal; Charnequinha do Castelejo, Ataboeira, Cerro da Barriga, Lomba do Covão da Azinheira and Lomba dos Verdalhos).

«The intervention that is taking place in the Pardieiro Zone up to the limit with the municipality of Lagos (Vinha Velha Zone), which covers an area of ​​more than 26 hectares», according to the municipality.

«It is also planned, before the critical period, to intervene the Path that connects the geodesic landmark of Pardieiro to Casa Velha in Barão de São Miguel», he added.

From the 1st of June to the 31st of October, the Sapadores Florestais team, within the scope of the Special Device for Fighting Rural Fires – DECIR 2022, will be involved in surveillance actions and the 1st intervention.

As part of the joint application made by the municipalities of Terras do Infante for the PDR2020, between November 2021 and February 2022 the Vila do Bispo primary network, with an approximate area of ​​200 hectares, had already been implemented.

«The Primary Network of Fuel Management Strips (RPFGC) works as a structuring element of the rural landscape, planned and designed at a district scale, in order to perform a set of functions based on the defense of people and goods and the forest space» , explains the Chamber.
