Demonstration “Stop the war! Save the children!” gathered hundreds of people in Albufeira

Social action was organized by the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal (Núcleo Albufeira)

Close to 200 people from the Ukrainian, Portuguese and international community gathered, this Sunday, April 10, in Praia dos Fishermen in Albufeira to call for an end to the war in Ukraine.

To draw the attention of the Portuguese and international community to the need to help Ukraine to stop the war and ensure that no more children die, 177 soft toys were placed in the square representing the toys of children who died in the war with Russia.

Among the people who gathered in the square were also Ukrainian refugees who had just arrived in Portugal and several families who received them.

«I arrived in Portugal on the 22nd of March. I think it's important for us to be active wherever we are after leaving Ukraine. Look for humanitarian aid collection centers, hold demonstrations, collect goods, buy medicines. Our country needs us”, appeals Natalia Skomorokhova, a refugee in Albufeira.

“We want to stop this unjust war that victimizes children. Children are dying in front of their mothers and then they kill their mothers. Stop the war. Our hearts are full and we want to thank Portugal and the Portuguese for being by our side in this horrible and unfair time. We are feeling your support», says Oksana Turyk, coordinator of the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal (Albufeira branch).

The Association of Ukrainians in Portugal has centers in Lisbon, Funchal, Abrantes, Braga, Caldas da Rainha, Lagos, Viseu, Águeda, Vila Nova de Gaia, Santiago de Cacém, Leiria, Santarém, Évora, Marinha Grande and Albufeira. In Albufeira, on Rua Alexandre Herculano, there is a center for collecting and dispatching humanitarian aid.
