Faro Story Spot opens in June and wants to be a «reference place» throughout the year

The project aims to "make known the history of Faro in a more fun way »

It is in the historic center of the city of Faro, in a XNUMXth century house located in Largo da Sé, which is about to be born what aims to be «a place of reference» for those who visit Faro during the year. it's called Faro Story Spot, is scheduled to open in June and was created with the aim of making known, to the Algarve population and tourists, the history of the city, the Ria Formosa and the importance of the Mediterranean Diet.

“Often, people from accommodation and hotel establishments told us that they had difficulty suggesting things for visitors to do outside of high season. From there, we decided to create a space that would add something to the cultural offer of the city, that would be a place of reference and a point of tourist attraction, but from a different perspective – that of making known the history of Faro in a more fun way», says João Amaro, one of those responsible for the space developed by the company GOOD MOMENTS – Creative Industry of Culture and Traditional Food, ao Sul Informação.

In this space, visitors will have the opportunity to take a tour divided into different stages. In the first room, as João Amaro explains, the history of Faro, from the 8th century BC to the present day – highlighting the main moments of the city’s evolution – through the narration of Zé do Mar (a marine biologist played by the Farense actor João de Brito). For those who want to follow the tour with narration in another language, there will be audio guides for the entire route.

Then, you reach a room dedicated to the Ria Formosa, whose story is told «in a fun way» by a seahorse. «After this room, we enter two areas where there is an immersive experience with boxes of mirrors that allow us to hear the sounds of the estuary», says João Amaro.

Finally, we move to a room, «which is a recreation of an old tavern», where we talk about the Mediterranean Diet, its importance, and the products of the Algarve that make it up.

This is a tour designed for children and adults, in which each one can benefit from the experience in different ways, explains the person in charge of the space.

Although there is still no date set for the opening, João Amaro reveals to the Sul Informação that the team is, at the moment, dealing with «the last details» so that the Faro Story Spot starts receiving visitors in June. In this place, the experience will last about 45 minutes, and at the end, there will be a tasting moment on the terrace, with bread and olive oil accompanied by a glass of wine or other drink.

However, those who purchase the ticket will still be entitled to receive the pass to enter an application that will allow them to make a self-guided tour through the Historic Center of Faro. “As people approach historic spaces, videos, texts and content appear about what they are seeing. At the same time, there will be a quiz with questions with scores that, in the end, will give the right to prizes», explains João Amaro.

Two months before the opening, the person in charge of the project, which involved an investment of «about 500 thousand euros», co-financed by the European Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), reveals that it is expected that, every year, the Faro Story Spot receives close to 25 thousand visits.

From January to May and from October to November, in the so-called low season, the space will be open between 10 am and 00 pm.

From June to September, it will be possible to visit the Faro Story Spot between 10 am and 00 pm.

«The target audience of the space are three large groups: tourists visiting Faro, residents, who we want to see and take pride in the history of the city, and the students of educational establishments», concludes João Amaro.

As for tickets, prices will start at €20 for adults, but there will be different prices for children, families and residents.
