Farense creates regional padel league to «unite the Algarve»

In each stage, between 120 and 150 pairs will participate, in men and women.

The newly formed padel section of Farense will create an Algarve League that will start on the 29th of April and will pass through seven locations. The objective is to «unite the padel of the region», a sport that is «with an impressive growth».

Created at the beginning of this year, this new section of Farense, despite its young age, has been showing up.

The coordinator Diogo Sousa explained to the Sul Informação that Liga Algarvia is one of the aspects of this new project dedicated to padel.

From April 29th to December 18th, there will be eight stages, including a final masters, which will go through Faro, Albufeira, São Brás de Alportel and also Quarteira.

«This League, which is of a social nature, has a lot to do with our desire to unite padel in the region, since there is not much interaction. We haven't managed to have all the clubs yet because it's a project to start, but we already have a good role», considered Diogo Sousa.

In each stage, between 120 and 150 pairs, male and female, will participate.

As it is a more social tournament, athletes from categories 3, 4 and 5 will play. The 1 and 2, for higher level players, will be left out.

According to Diogo Sousa, the interest in this Algarve League has been «fantastic»…even because ««there will be a good level of prizes».

What is happening with this competition is, according to the padel coordinator of Farense, the mirror of the first months of activity of this section.

“As soon as I got in touch with the sport, I realized that it had tremendous potential, but there has, in fact, been an incredible growth”, he told the Sul Informação.

«This is a sport that is easily practiced and that can reach a competitive level with a lot of interest and Farense, as an institution of public utility, had the duty here to enhance not only the modality, but also the training that is one of the main objectives», explained.

Currently, the Algarve has 70 athletes participating in the official teams, but with expectations of «growing even more». Also because one of the main aspects of this project involves investing in training.

«It is something that is not yet 100% explored in padel clubs and we think it is an area to explore. We want to combine the padel project with a training project in the modality », he explained.

For now, there are already about 100 students enrolled, with classes at the Eduardo Beldade Tennis Academy, in Faro, and at the Tennis Center of Faro, in Gambelas.

In parallel, the Farense padel project has already contributed to the club's membership increase, with about 120 more associates.

Increase in the number of members: about 120 more, which also helps Farense even financially.
