Man arrested for bank robbery in Sotavento

One of the crimes was the robbery of Abanca's Faro

A man who robbed a bank and tried to rob another, in the Eastern Algarve area, was detained by the Judiciary Police and will await trial in preventive detention.

One of the crimes in question is the armed robbery of the dependence on Faro from the Spanish bank Abanca, last Thursday.

According to the Judiciary Police, the detainee, a 40-year-old man of Portuguese nationality, already has a criminal record for the same type of crime.

The arrest was made possible as a result of an «investigation into bank robberies (…) that occurred in the eastern Algarve».

"Following the communication made by the PSP, it was possible to gather sufficient evidence to attribute to the defendant a robbery and an attempt committed in the present month of April", says the PJ.

The investigation, supervised by the 2nd Section of the DIAP of Faro, continues in charge of the Judiciary Police, «aiming at the relationship of the accused with other facts».
