Loulé Chamber promotes sport and supports clubs with around 1,3 million euros

Program supports 48 entities, 50 modalities and 4302 athletes

This year, the Loulé Sports Development Support Program includes 48 entities, 50 modalities and 4302 athletes, in an amount of 1,3 million euros allocated by the Municipality.

The program aims to “ensure the effectiveness and transparency of the support granted, improve the organization, make the sports associative sector more sustainable and modern, further increasing the quality and diversity of the sports offer and encouraging the participation of the population”, says the Chamber. Municipality of Loulé in a statement.

As councilor Carlos Carmo explained during the session for the signing of contracts between the Municipality and the communities, this initiative is structured in three axes: «with regard to support for the promotion of sport and physical activity, more than 800 thousand euros are channeled with a view to supporting federated and non-federated sports activities that respect active inclusion (…); In relation to support for social responsibility projects that develop the regular practice of physical and sports activities among the population, organization of events and occasional activities such as the participation of clubs and/or athletes in international competitions, the Municipality provides a budget of 317 thousand euros; Finally, with regard to the modernization and autonomy of the associations, in addition to supporting the maintenance of the clubs' own vehicles, this measure aims to support the acquisition of vehicles or the rental of passenger transport for athletes and delegations. In this case, the value is around 90 thousand euros».

During this session, the councilor responsible for sport also took stock of recent years, referring that, between 2019 and 2022, there was an increase in the order of 1000 athletes supported in the municipality.

Vítor Aleixo said that the municipality has made an effort to value and enhance the networking carried out with local institutions. «It is in this intersectoral and multidisciplinary approach strategy that we seek to find the answers and measures adjusted to achieve the goals we propose: increase the population's levels of physical activity, reduce sedentary behaviors in daily routines and follow the latest WHO recommendations» , said the Mayor of Loulé.

As for the creation of new sports facilities, the mayor mentioned the recently opened BMX track in Quarteira and the Multipurpose Sports Pavilion in Almancil, under construction.

The mayor also shared that, very soon, work will begin to replace the synthetic turf in the Loulé and Quarteira fields, as well as the construction of the three natural turf fields in the Algarve Stadium Complex. Regarding the Boliqueime and Tôr fields, the Municipality awaits opinions from the various competent authorities.
