Ana Bacalhau gives concert in Silves in May

Deolinda's voice is the guest of "Side B"

Ana Bacalhau will star in a concert at Teatro Mascarenhas Gregório, in Silves, on May 6, at 21:30 pm, as part of the “Side B” initiative.

The Portuguese artist, in addition to being «a unique performer, who always gives herself on stage as if it could be the last time we hear and see her live», also has «increasingly a word to say in the writing of the lyrics and of the songs he interprets», according to the Silves Chamber.

«It is in a raw and sincere way that he defines his long-awaited second album in his own name, entitled “Beyond the Short Imagination”. This is inevitably personal and intimate work, reflecting, therefore, the long and painful journey that the pandemic has imposed. There is a record before the pandemic and another after the pandemic: the alignment mirrors that, listing the songs in chronological order of recording», adds the municipality.

They cost 10 euros and can be purchased at online ticket office, at FNAC, Worten, CTT, EI Corte Inglês and Youth Hostels or at the venue, on the day of the show, from 20:00 pm, if there is a ticket office available.

About Ana Bacalhau:

«Ana Bacalhau was born in 1978. She wanted to be a Portuguese and English teacher when she was a child and, as planned, she continued her studies in this area. But the guitar lessons she so often asked her parents for led her to discover her voice and a desire to make music that she never let go.

The first band was called Lupanar. It was born in 2001, from a joint idea by Gonçalo Tocha and Dídio Pestana to make music in Portuguese, exploring sounds, words and musical genres without constraints or barriers. There he met Zé Pedro Leitão, bassist, with whom he formed the jazz trio Tricotismo, in 2005, where they explored together their taste for jazz and blues.

Deolinda would arrive in 2006. With her, the desire to live exclusively through music becomes a reality and since then she has traveled the world with the words and sounds of the band. In addition to his work at Deolinda, with four award-winning albums and hundreds of concerts, he shared his voice and stage with other musicians, such as Gaiteiros de Lisboa, Sérgio Godinho, Xutos & Pontapés, António Chainho, Pedro Abrunhosa and Ana Moura.

In 2013, she was invited to participate in a song promoted by the UN, “One Woman”, from a group of 25 singers, including Concha Buika, Bebel Gilberto and Rokia Traoré. The song intends to alert for the defense of women's rights.

A necessary journey to redemption after the fall. It is in this raw and sincere way that Ana Bacalhau defines her long-awaited second album in her own name, entitled “Além da Curta Imaginação”. It is an album that intends to create new worlds, which can materialize in this one. Create new worlds, so that the experiences of pain and loss can be sublimated.

This journey began in 2020, when Ana Bacalhau revealed the moving first single, “Memória”, a song written by João Direitinho, Guilherme Alface and Mário Monginho, from ÁTOA, and produced by Twins. In this theme, the singer tells a story of growth, of ignorance and recognition of who she is, looking back, in the certainty that she is no longer that person and wanting to understand who she is becoming.

In the summer of 2021, he unveiled “Sou Como Sou”, a true anthem of self-acceptance and liberation from molds that do not serve us, written by Alex D'Alva Teixeira and Ben Monteiro, again produced by Twins. Mastering took place at Abbey Road Studios by Christian Wright.

More recently, he released a new single, “Que Me Interessa A Mim”, a song about overcoming fears, knowing that you will reach higher, even with all the bruises, the wounds, the dents from the poorly supported falls».
