The program “1, 2, 3, 4… I already know how to swim” is back in Vila Real de Santo António and will teach 500 students to swim.
The initiative returns after a two-year break, due to the pandemic, and aims to teach 1st cycle students the basics of swimming, providing many students with their first experience in the water.
The project is free.
«Learning is done at the rhythm of each child, with an initial assessment being carried out. To enable schools to join the project, the municipality provides free transport between the pools and educational establishments», explains the City Council.
In addition to teaching students to swim, «the initiative also aims to promote healthier lifestyles and fight childhood obesity».
