A serval and a pancake turtle are the new tenants of the Lagos Zoo

Two more lynxes are also “on the way”

A turtle of a critically endangered species and a new species of feline have recently arrived at the Lagos Zoo, where they can already be seen by visitors.

One of the new tenants of the Algarve Zoo is a pancake turtle (Malacochersus tornieri). , a species that is critically endangered and that, for that reason, “is also included in the population management programs in zoos, which contribute to its survival and conservation”.

The name of this turtle, which in nature can only be found "in small areas of Kenya and Tanzania", is due to "its very flat and light shell", which makes it "one of the few species of turtle that, in place to hide in the shell, it manages to run to escape», according to the Lagos Zoo.

The Lacobrigens Park also welcomed a new species of feline, a male serval (Leptailurus serval), who arrived from Parque Zoológico Oasys, in Spain.

Also in March, the Lagos Zoo will welcome two Carpathian lynxes (Lynx lynx carpathicus), “a species that is also threatened and an integral part of zoo population management programs”.
These animals come from the Liberec Zoo in the Czech Republic and "are very important, as they are part of a program to reintroduce the species to nature, in the Carpathian region, which involves countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Romania and Ukraine".

Another novelty are the animals that were born at the Zoo recently, namely “an oriental gray kangaroo, still a little shy, inside its mother’s baby carrier, and the new baby siamango, clinging to its mother’s breast”.
