SIC advances with list of ministers full of news

Official release of the list could happen later today.

Helena Carreiras in Defense, José Luís Carneiro in Internal Administration, Elvira Fortunato in Science and Higher Education and João Costa in Education. These are some of the news from the list of ministers, announced this Wednesday, March 23, by SIC. 

The list has, moreover, several changes compared to the last government of António Costa.

Starting with Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho is, according to SIC; the new minister, leaving the portfolio of National Defense, now assumed by Helena Carreiras, a university professor.

In the Internal Administration, the new head should be José Luís Carneiro, deputy secretary general of the PS, taking the place left by Francisca Van Dunem.

Another novelty is in Justice, with Catarina Sarmento e Castro being the name put forward by SIC.

Fernando Medina, former mayor of Lisbon, now gains a seat in the Government – ​​he was, by the way, a name long appointed to Finance.

Ana Catarina Mendes, former parliamentary leader of the PS, also becomes minister: in this case Deputy and Parliamentary Affairs.

The Ministries of the Sea and the Economy merge into one – which has already been confirmed by the Government – ​​with António Costa e Silva, the mentor of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, taking over both portfolios.

Also in culture, SIC advances with a new name: André Moz Caldas, former Secretary of State, should be the new minister, as well as Elvira Fortunato in Science, Technology and Higher Education.

In Education, João Costa, who is also a former Secretary of State, became Minister, and Duarte Cordeiro, considered one of António Costa’s right-hand men, became Minister of the Environment and Climate Action, replacing João Matos Fernandes in the post. .

The remaining ministerial cast remains: Ana Mendes Godinho (Labour, Solidarity and Social Security), Marta Temido (Health), Pedro Nuno Santos (Infrastructure and Housing), Ana Abrunhosa (Territorial Cohesion) and Maria do Céu Antunes (Agriculture and Food ).
