Refugees from Ukraine are already working in Algarve companies

Minister Ana Mendes Godinho revealed in Alte

There are already refugees who arrived from Ukraine, fleeing the war, working in the Algarve, with employment contracts signed within the scope of the online platform created by the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training, revealed yesterday, Monday, in Alte, Ana Mendes Godinho , Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security.

The ruler was in the village in the interior of the municipality of Loulé to preside the inauguration of the National Observatory on Aging. On the sidelines of the session, he revealed to journalists that the platform where companies across the country registered “more than 23 job offers” is bearing fruit.

“We already have some people who are currently working. (…) There are people employed in the Algarve, namely in the tourist sector, with signed work contracts », he revealed.

«The first employment contract that was signed was with a social sector entity in the North. This sector has a great capacity for reception and integration”, he added.

Like Sul Informação I had already noticed, from the first moment, that there were Algarve businessmen from various sectors, but also Private Social Solidarity Institutions, namely the União das Misericórdias, which made available to integrate refugees into their teams.

Ana Mendes Godinho also revealed that her ministry has created “joint teams between Social Security and the IEFP to contact all people who ask for international protection, precisely for a personalized follow-up and to ensure that integration is done in the best way”.

«Portuguese courses are already taking place, developed by the IEFP, for a better reception and greater ability to understand», he added.

“There is a great mobilization on the part of civil society to welcome people in the best way we can, in such a difficult context that we live and all that these people have gone through in Ukraine”, concludes the minister.

In addition to the labor issue, there are also advances in the area of access to health.

“Right now we have about 16.800 requests for temporary protection and we already have more than 15 user numbers assigned. In other words, we are working in parallel with the Aliens and Borders Service and the registration they have, in order to be able to call these people for vaccination. This is extremely important”, revealed António Lacerda Sales, Assistant Secretary of State and Health.

«As soon as they receive a user number, these people have the possibility, like any Portuguese citizen, of being assigned a family doctor. Many already have it, others are still in an organization process so that they can have it. But yes, primary health care is the gateway to the system and it is essential that they have the same conditions as any Portuguese citizen», said the member of the Government.
