Pedro Araújo becomes runner-up in doubles at the Loulé Open

The Portuguese Pedro Araújo was crowned this Saturday, March 19, runner-up in doubles in the 12th edition of the Loulé Open.

As the day before, the 19-year-old Portuguese youngster had to play three matches: in the first, he ended his participation in the singles variant by losing in the quarter-finals by 6-3 and 6-3 with the Japanese Kaichi Uchida, champion in title and first seed, as a result of the 251st place in the ATP ranking.

Afterwards, Pedro Araújo returned to court alongside Dutchman Guy Den Ouden and sealed his presence in the doubles final by defeating Spaniards Alberto Barroso Campos and Benjamin Winter Lopez 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.

Called to action for the third and last time, the national absolute runner-up once again had a good reply with his partner from the Netherlands, but Yu Hsiou Hsu, from Taipei, and Neil Oberleitner, from Austria, managed to be happier and won by 7 -5 and 7-5 to win the trophy.

This Saturday's final at the Loulé Open was the third of his career for Pedro Araújo in international tournaments, after being runner-up in Setúbal with Fábio Coelho, in September 2021, and champion in Vilhena alongside the Danish Johannes Ingildsen, already this season. .

In the singles, the title is being discussed this Sunday, the 20th, between Lucas Miedler (312th) and Fabian Marozsan (364th). The Austrian, third seed, started the day beating Belgian Gauthier Onclin, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, and ended up knocking out the reigning champion, Kaichi Uchida, 6-2, 6- 3. The Belgian, on the other hand, beat Benjamin Winter Lopez 6-1 and 6-0 early in the morning and after that triumph prevailed by 2-6, 6-1 and 6-3 against Alejandro Moro Canas, from Spain.
