New cases of Covid-19 rise again in the Algarve, Alentejo and nationally

Hospitalizations suffer significant decline

The number of new cases of Covid-19 rose again both nationally and in the Algarve and Alentejo regions. Thus, according to data from today's bulletin, the 3rd, of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), there were 12 new infections across the country, of which 234 more in the Algarve region and 836 in the Alentejo.

These are numbers much higher than yesterday (when national data pointed to 8833) or even Tuesday (11.006).

On the other hand, there was a significant drop in the number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients, which are less than 100 in the last 24 hours, for a total of 1300. The number of people in Intensive care remains at 90.

Across the country, DGS data point to 30 more deaths caused by SARS-Cov-2, which, being slightly higher than the previous day, is in line with the most recent death figures. Of these, the Algarve registers two deaths and the Alentejo one.

But the last 24 hours also brought a large number of recovered: there were 11.726 more. This means that, despite the increase in new infections, the number of active cases in the country has only registered a weak rise. The DGS epidemiological bulletin points to 478 more active cases, which gives a total of 474.019 nationally.

The risk matrix, which was updated yesterday, indicates that the transmissibility index R(t) rose to .76 at the national level and to .75, counting only in mainland Portugal.

The incidence dropped to 1638,1 cases of infection per 100 inhabitants, nationally, and to 1557,3 cases, excluding the Autonomous Regions.
