Romanian Marius Copil and Russian Alexey Vatutin qualified, this Saturday, for the singles final of the Portimão M25 International Open, an international tournament worth US$25.000 that the Portimão Tennis and Padel Club organizes with the support of the Portimão City Council. and the Portuguese Tennis Federation.

After three rounds decided in three matches, the last of which after saving two match points, the first seed, Marius Copil (260th in the ATP ranking), lived a much calmer day: the former top 60 ATP led 4-1 in the first half when Dutchman Gijs Brouwer (339th) withdrew due to neck pain.

In the second, more balanced semi-final, Alexey Vatutin (316th ATP) managed to get the better of the second seed, Czech Jonas Forejtek (former junior world number one who at 21 is in 311th place in the ATP ranking), with the partials of 7-5 and 6-3 after 1h37 of the match.

Sunday's final, scheduled for 11 am, will be Copil's first in ITF tournaments since May 2011, he who has not competed in events on this circuit since May 2016. The Romanian is chasing his seventh career title (fourth in ITFs) and the first since 2016, when he became champion of the Challenger in Budapest, Hungary.

As for Vatutin, who was world number 136 in 2018, he has already won a title this season (in Grenoble's $15.000 ITF, putting an end to a four-year fast) and is looking to lift his 12th career champion trophy. 10 of her titles took place on the ITF circuit, the other on the Challenger circuit (Poznan, in 2017).

This Saturday, the first champions of the 25 Portimão M2022 International Open were crowned.
