Portugal is doing everything it can to help Ukraine. This is the conviction of the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who was in Vilamoura this Saturday to participate in the closing session of the congress of the Public Prosecutor's Union of Magistrates.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa's statement comes after Volodymyr Zelensky, president of Ukraine, identified Portugal as one of the countries that could help his nation the most.

Now, the Portuguese President says he understands that those who, “like President Zelensky, are experiencing a war always want more weapons, more military resources and more support. In this context, there are countries much richer and closer than Portugal that can give more than we have given, given that we have been giving everything we can and even, in many cases, things that we did not expect to be able to give».

Marcelo considers that «we are doing what is possible to do in the circumstances, that is, in the political and diplomatic sphere, everything that is within our reach».

At the military level, Portugal is helping “within our availabilities. Whoever has availabilities and capabilities that we don't have can provide those capabilities, we can within our limit. In terms of reception, our position is very simple: anyone who wants to come is welcome», he guaranteed.

In this context of welcoming Ukrainian refugees, the President of the Republic thanked the Portuguese for "the receptivity" they have had.
