Government adopts simplified regime to accommodate Ukrainian refugees

After just one day, the portal created by the Government already has “more than two thousand job offers”

The Minister of the Presidency Mariana Vieira da Silva announced that Ukrainian citizens who come to Portugal due to the war in their country will benefit from “a set of simplified requirements” to enter national territory. They will have automatic access to a tax, Social Security and SNS number, which will allow them to automatically become legal and find a job. Portugal has so far received 141 requests.

The decision aims to “answer the fundamental needs” of the Ukrainians on the run, explained Vieira da Silva, this Tuesday, after an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers. These needs “can be for accommodation, they are necessarily for the legalization of the situation, but also with a fundamental focus on the dimension of employment”, he added.

The minister revealed that, due to the “uncertainty” of the situation, the Executive has, for now, no idea of a concrete number of requests for refugees that it may receive, although “the number of Ukrainians living in Portugal increases the capacity to response and welcome”.
