Faro mourns the death of former councilor José Matos Junça

Matos Junça was president of Casa dos Rapazes, and leader of Farense and the Football Association of Faro

The Chamber of Faro regretted this Monday, March 14, the death of José Matos Junça, former councilor of the municipality and president of the Instituto D. Francisco Gomes (Casa dos Rapazes).

Matos Junça was a councilor twice, between 1986 and 1993.

«Training engineer, José Caeiro de Matos Junça, 90, stood out throughout his life for his political, civic action, humanism and solidarity, having marked several generations of children and young people who were in a fragile situation and passed by the Instituto D. Francisco Gomes (formerly Casa dos Rapazes), an institution he led for several years», says the Chamber of Faro.

In addition to having distinguished himself in political activity, having held several positions at regional level in the PPD/PSD (the party for which he was a councilor in a first term), engineer Matos Junça, as he was known, «also had an outstanding associative role in the area sport".

He was, moreover, director of the Football Association of Faro, as the current Algarve Football Association was called, as well as Sporting Clube Farense.

In 2001, he received the Medal of Merit – Gold Degree.
