This is a Green Week in Lagoa

Week started with the planting of a tree

The Municipality of Lagoa is promoting the 6th. Green Week edition with environmental awareness activities, associating a set of initiatives to each day of the week, which are carried out in partnership with the ESPAMOL School Group and the AERA School Group.

To mark the first day of this edition, this Monday, March 21st, as part of the celebrations of World Tree Day, Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa, «considering the importance of reforestation», participated in the activity “ plant your tree”, which took place at the Escola de Trânsito de Lagoa, during the morning, with the planting of an almond tree (Prunus dulcis), “one of the oldest fruit trees to be planted in the Algarve region”, highlights the Lagoa Chamber.

Also during Green Week, green flags will be raised in schools awarded through the Eco Schools Program of ABAE (Association of the Blue Flag of Europe).

According to the Câmara de Lagoa, «these ceremonies are an important milestone for the students, for the teachers and, above all, for the environment, because it means that the school complied with the methodology of the program and, consequently, that it had a good environmental performance, which it is assumed that students, teachers and employees assume appropriate environmental behaviors, and transmit them to their families and the local community».

In a note sent to the newsrooms, the Municipality of Lagoa, "through its municipal executive, congratulates all the pre-school, elementary and secondary education teaching establishments that have achieved the objectives of the Eco Schools Program and that will have the its green flag hoisted, referring to the 2020/2021 school year, in such an atypical year, but which clearly demonstrates the concern that continued to be had with the environment”.

«It is extremely important that we mark the green week to raise awareness and promote lifestyle habits that protect our planet earth. Our school community has been a fundamental partner in this chapter and our children and young people have been a great
example for all of us», considers Luís Encarnação, Mayor of Lagoa.
