Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) published this Monday, March 21, in Diário da República, the public tender for the construction of an electric traction substation in Olhão. The investment is around 8,5 million euros.

The project is part of the Algarve Line electrification project, part of the program for the modernization and requalification of the National Railway Network, Ferrovia2020, co-financed by the European Union.

According to IP, «the Algarve Line Electrification project aims to provide electric traction (in the 25 kV – 50 Hz system) on the Tunes-Lagos and Faro-Vila Real de Santo António, enabling this railway infrastructure with better levels of operation, reliability and safety».

Thus, it will be possible to «provide passengers with an environmentally sustainable, faster and more convenient public transport alternative, at the service of populations and tourists in the Algarve region».
