CDU: Sale of municipal land promotes «discharacterization of the riverfront» of Olhão

In question land next to the Port of Recreio that was used as a parking lot

The Olhão CDU accuses the Olhão municipal executive of "another step" towards "the de-characterization of the Olhão riverfront", with the approval of the sale of "an important plot of land" located between the Real Marina Hotel in Olhão and the new Marina Del Mar development, opposite the Porto de Recreio de Olhão, which was used as a parking space.

«The sale of this space will push the current parking area – for those who travel daily to the riverside area and the markets of Olhão – to a land even further away from this area. A temporary solution that runs the risk of being eliminated later on, for the same reasons that now led to the sale of this land», states the CDU.

The communists question, on the one hand, about "the reasons for the urgency of this sale" and, on the other hand, about "the destination to be given to the proceeds made", which is estimated to be in the order of 2,7 million euros.

«For CDU, this is another step that is part of the profound de-characterization of the Olhão riverfront, which the majority PS makes go through “requalification”, and its delivery to the large real estate interests that intend to build and sell housing there. luxury, inaccessible to the vast majority of the municipality's population, which over the years has been expelled from the historic and noblest areas of the city of Olhão», they say.

The CDU, which abstained from voting on the PS executive's proposal to sell this lot, assures that it "does not oppose the sale of public assets when justified, just as it does not oppose the construction of new buildings".

«But the urban and planning policy of the Municipality cannot be linked to the great real estate interests as has been the case», he defends.

The communists even accuse the socialists, who have led this Chamber since the 25th of April, of having been "an actor committed to promoting real estate speculation, by selling municipal land, or by purchasing other immovable property, without this being reflect on development for the county».

This party also defends «the need for another urban policy for the municipality that ensures economic, social, territorial, environmental and mobility balance».
