23 people from seven different nationalities are learning or improving their knowledge of the Portuguese language, in a free Portuguese course that started on Tuesday, the 15th, in Alcoutim.
This action by the City Council had «good support from the foreign community» and attracted students «between 29 and 72 years old».
The course takes place at the Escola Básica Integrada de Alcoutim, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 18:00 pm to 19:00 pm. Interested parties should contact the Municipal Social Action, Health and Education office, in person or via email [email protected].
«Attracted by the sun, the culture and the lifestyle, there are many foreigners living in the municipality of Alcoutim», states Osvaldo Gonçalves, mayor of Alcoutim.
“Ignorance of the language can hamper the integration of new residents. Hence the need to move forward with this initiative», adds the mayor.
