Swede who fell into the Gilão River was rescued with signs of hypothermia and abrasions

Victim is 66 years old

A Swedish man who fell into the Gilão River was rescued with "signs of hypothermia and several bruises on his body", today, Monday, the 21st, at dawn.

The 66-year-old victim "suffered an accidental fall from a height of three meters".

Following an alert given at 5:30 am by elements of the Municipal Fire Department of Tavira, the National Maritime Authority sent elements of the Maritime Police Local Command to the scene.

The man was rescued ashore, where elements of the Municipal Firefighters of Tavira «promptly stabilized him and assisted him at the scene, and then proceeded to transport the victim to a hospital unit».

The Maritime Police Psychology Office was contacted.
