New cases of Covid-19 drop, including in the Algarve and Alentejo

There is also a drop in hospitalizations, active cases and deaths

The number of new cases of Covid-19 has dropped across the country, including in the Algarve and Alentejo, announced the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), in its epidemiological bulletin this Saturday, 19 February.

According to these data, which have just been released, the number of patients hospitalized due to the pandemic also suffered a sharp decrease, as well as active cases and even deaths.

But let's get to the numbers: nationally, according to the DGS bulletin, there are today over 14 confirmed cases of Covid-160, of which 19 in the Algarve and 836 in the Alentejo. The region with the most new infections is Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (+907), followed by the North (+4) and the Center (+505). The Azores experienced an increase since yesterday (+3 194) and Madeira fell (+2).

Of the 37 deaths directly caused by the pandemic in national territory, the largest share (16) occurred in the North region, followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (11), Center (8). The Algarve and Alentejo register 1 death each, while in the Autonomous Regions yesterday there were no deaths caused by Covid-19.

With regard to patients admitted to hospitals across the country, this Saturday totaled 1, that is, there are 799 fewer hospitalizations than yesterday. In the Intensive Care Units, there are 137 patients with Covid-118 (-19).

Taking into account the drop in the number of new cases compared to previous days and the fact that the number of recovered patients has increased (+26), the number of active cases across the country has dropped. There are now 828 fewer active cases, out of a total of 12.

The risk matrix, which was updated yesterday, gives an R(t), transmissibility index, of 0,74, nationally, and 0,73, taking into account only mainland Portugal.

The incidence also suffers a decrease, now amounting to 3853,1 cases of infection per 100 thousand inhabitants, nationally, and in 3833,4 cases, excluding the Autonomous Regions.
