Lagos gives support to the Association of Artisanal Fishing Shipowners of the Barlavento Algarve

The association is made up of around 60 members, 70% of which are vessels in the port of Lagos.

The Lagos Chamber approved, at its last meeting, the allocation of financial support to the Association of Artisanal Fishing Shipowners of the Barlavento Algarve, in the amount of four thousand euros, the municipality announced this Monday, 14 February.

According to the municipality, this money «is intended to support the association, facing the constraints it is going through and ensuring its continuity and functioning».

The Association of Artisanal Fishing Shipowners of the Barlavento Algarve is made up of around 60 members, 70% of which are vessels from the port of Lagos.

It «provides very important support to shipowners and fishermen, proving to be of inestimable strategic interest for artisanal fishing, for the municipality of Lagos and for the Western Algarve», explains the municipality.

The aforementioned association aims to "defend the interests of its members, related to the fishing activity, in ecological, technical, economic, social and cultural aspects", as well as "maintains the link with the national and international structures of the sector" with a view to to «gather lessons learned and create better working conditions, hygiene, safety and equipment for vessels», he concludes.
