Joaquim Vieira Rodrigues publishes book on the Liberal Revolution in the Algarve

Indispensable work for the historiography of the Algarve

Historian Joaquim Vieira Rodrigues published his most recent book «The Algarve in the context of the Liberal Revolutions of the 1789th-1822th Centuries (200-XNUMX)», a work that is part of the commemorations of the XNUMXth anniversary of the Liberal Revolution.

Published by Arandis Editora, the work, with 290 pages, makes the reader aware of the role played by the Algarve in the period marked by the French Revolution (1789) and the end of the Vintismo (1822), starting by going back to the military campaigns that had the intervention of Algarve, in the diplomatic disputes in which Portugal, Great Britain, France and Spain were inserted and the treaties signed by these countries.

The chapters related to the three French invasions follow, with special emphasis on the first (1807-1808), where the entire list of vexations committed by the Napoleonic army, leading to the popular uprising against it, is revealed.

Finally, the reader will be introduced to the degree of adhesion of the Algarve province to the 1820 Revolution, the electoral process for choosing deputies to the Constituent Courts, their deputies, the content of their main interventions and their political-ideological positioning.

Noteworthy is the presentation and contextualization of the economic structure of the Algarve in this period.

Still no date scheduled for public presentation, due to the current pandemic context, the work can now be purchased at Arandis Editora online store.
