Hospital Terras do Infante hosts training with state-of-the-art equipment in the field of Robotic Surgery

Training is given at the “new” Hospital Terras do Infante, in Lagos

The Hospital Terras do Infante, in Lagos, which “progressively” integrates, since the 25th of January, the sphere of the SNS and the universe of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, hosts, for the first time, the demonstration of the da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System, the latest technological evolution in minimally invasive surgery.

Aimed at healthcare professionals in the surgical area, this presentation and unprecedented training action at CHUA takes place between the 21st and 25th of February, with the aim of promoting practical sessions, in a model endotrainer, for surgeons of different specialties, operating room nurses and surgery interns who wish to approach this technology.

As the CHUA Board of Directors says, “this demonstration is the result of our university-based health institution’s strong commitment to training our professionals, as well as encouraging clinical research based on world-class technologies” .

As for the training model, in each session a specialist from Robotic Excellence, the Iberian company that provides the equipment and provides the training, will explain and support the simulated practice of the technical characteristics of the da Vinci Xi robotic system and the associated advanced technologies: fluorescence, vessel sealing, robotic mechanical suturing and virtual simulator.

Each module is divided into two parts, one for virtual simulation to intuitively understand the control of commands on the console and another part in model endotrainer.

Learn more about da Vinci Xi's innovative equipment
Equipped with high definition 3D vision, Endowrist instruments and a simple and intuitive control system that allows the surgeon to perform delicate interventions, performing complex surgeries always with the guarantee of minimal invasion, the da Vinci robotic system thus guarantees greater precision. , minimal invasion and safety in the intervention, translating into a double advantage, both for the doctor and for the patient.

As the company that represents and sells this equipment in Portugal – Excellence Robotics – says, “the innovative da Vinci robotic system allows for minimally invasive surgery that optimizes clinical results in surgical procedures in various specialties, also providing more efficient healthcare. It presents important advantages for patients, such as faster recovery and return to daily life, improves the surgeon's dexterity by increasing precision, eliminating physiological tremor and great maneuverability to access more difficult and complex anatomical areas”.

These benefits have already been demonstrated in about 24.000 scientific publications, in more than 8,5 million interventions performed worldwide, over two decades and more than 60.000 in the Iberian Peninsula, since the da Vinci surgical system was incorporated as a technique. of minimally invasive surgery in hospitals in Portugal and Spain.

Robotic surgery assisted with da Vinci applies to the following specialties: General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Urology, Gynecology, Pediatric Surgery, Otolaryngology, Head and Neck and also Transplant Surgery.
