Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step) is the first yellow jersey of the Volta ao Algarve

Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team) is the first yellow jersey of the Volta ao Algarve, after winning this Wednesday, February 16, in the sprint, the first stage that ended in Lagos. 

O sprinter beat the competition, reaching the sprint that was already expected, completing the stage in 4 hours, 56 minutes and 25 seconds.

This was the Dutch cyclist's third victory in Lagos, following achievements in 2019 and 2020.

Bryan Coquard (Cofidis) took 2nd place and Alexander Kristoff (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux) closed the podium.

Michele Gazzoli (Astana Qazaqstan Team) finished 4th and Rui Oliveira (Emirates) 5th.

The run, which started in Portimão and covered 199,1 kilometers, was marked by two collective falls.

There was no cyclist from the Algarve teams in the competition (Louletano and Atum General-Tavira-Maria Nova Hotel) to finish in the top 15.

The second stage of the Volta ao Algarve is scheduled for tomorrow. The trip will connect Albufeira to Alto da Fóia, in Monchique, for a total of 182,4 kilometers.
